Among my various watchlists is one I call Top Gainers. Every day, more or less, I add one or two of the highest-gaining assets over the last 24 hours.
A week ago today, I added one called Oxycoin, or XCN. It is an “infrastructure for a multi-asset, shared, and cryptographically secure ledger.”
A week ago, it was up 81 percent over 24 hours. Its price was $.0054. That’s roughly half of a penny.
Today I’m adding it again to my list. Because again, it is among the day’s top gainers, priced at $.0241. That’s not quite five times its value a week. And again, a week ago it was up 81 percent for the day.
If I’d invested $100 in XCN a week ago, even at its then already inflated price, my position now would be $446. That is a 346 percent gain.
Its one-year chart looks like this.
I am reluctant to infer any lesson from this. Except to say that sometimes a first move upward is the start of something bigger.
