James Clear distributes a weekly email with approximately 2 million subscribers. In case you don’t know, James Clear is a marketing guru and the author of Atomic Habits. That book has sold about 10 million copies.
In one recent email, he had this advice: Ask yourself, what is the one thing I can do today that will have the highest leverage? Answer that question, then do that thing.
My problem with that is this: For any activity to have significant leverage, it needs to be done consistently, day after day. To do it once, or once in a while, will create no leverage at all.
Today, I might believe that making a dozen cold calls will create massive results, eventually. But if I drop the practice tomorrow, it is likely to accomplish nothing.
