I called this forum the “Almost Daily Blog” for a reason. For a while there, I was writing almost daily.
Writing daily is like exercising a muscle. It just needs to be done. I won’t get into all the reasons here.
But I got lazy, or insecure, and started doubting that whatever I had to say could be of any interest, to anyone.
But that is beside the point. Daily production is non-negotiable. Doesn’t matter if it’s the most uninspired dreck in the history of the written word. Just gotta write something.
And I know one thing for certain, from doing the monthly “features” for the main section of this site. The more you do it, the better you get at it.
So I am now officially, hopefully, back in the swing. Now onto the main course.
I am planning to install an ADU—that’s an accessory dwelling unit—in the 2,000 square foot basement of my house. I have several questions related to rentability, which I will ask in a drop-in meeting with Jeffco Zoning, possibly today.
Here are some of my questions:
- Can an attached ADU be leased out to a tenant as conventional long-term rental? How about as a short-term rental?
- Suppose the owner moves out but remains the property owner. Can they lease out both units individually?
- Suppose the owner sells the property. Can the new owner move in and lease out one unit? Can they decline to move in and lease out both separately?
- In what section of the code is all of this spelled out? Please steer me to the right place.
As Porky Pig used to say, that’s all folks.
